There is plenty of articles out there about this topic. But I don’t find it reliable, especially the cost section. As I got trained in data, I only trust data and question any opinion that is not data-based.

If you are a local, the best choice will be public hospitals whose costs are heavily subsidized. But how about foreigners?

This article will cover the cost of Giving birth in Singapore based on MOH data as of mid-2021.

The scope of the article will be: One Bedded Ward(Ward A) and both normal delivery and c-section

All the data is extracted from https://www.moh.gov.sg/cost-financing/historical-transacted-bill-sizes-and-fee-benchmarks

Normal delivery

Public hospital

Ward A — Normal Delivery

From the data, we can conclude that a normal delivery will stay 2 days in the hospital, the cost is quite uniformed. SGH is slightly higher due to the longer average length of stay. So the cost will be from 4k to 6k SGD.

But if there is some kind of complication such as more than one baby which MOH classified as Assisted Normal Birth, the cost will be higher by 1k SGD

Ward A — Assisted Normal Birth

Interestingly, from the data, we can see that KKH is the only hospital that deal with complicated cases.

Private hospital

The range is quite huge in the case of the Private Hospital, it is up to each hospital. We can clearly see that Gleneagles Hospital is the most expensive in Singapore with the cost range from 9k5 to 11k7 SGD.

Similarly, the cost of more complicated — Assisted Normal Delivery will be slightly higher by 1k

C-Section Delivery

Public hospital

It is clear that for C-Section we need to stay at the hospital for 3 days, with an exception from SGH. The cost is significantly higher than normal delivery which ranges from 6k3 to 10k7 SGD.

Ward A — C-Section

For complicated C-Section, the cost is slightly higher than 1k. It is understandable since the length of stay is 4 days.

Private Hospital

Here is the real cost of private hospitals for C-Section. GEH obviously the most expensive one. So in general, the cost of C-Section delivery in private hospitals is range from 12 k to 16k, average.

One Bedded Ward — C-Section

In the case of a complicated c-section, the cost is higher mostly due to the length of stay.

Conclusion

It depends on your budget and the risk of your pregency. Such as if your budget is 10k, and you have a very high chance of normal delivery. Private hospitals would be your choice since they offer exceptional customer service.

But if you are worried about the risk of a complicated delivery or c-section with a limited budget, public hospitals would be better.
